.WesternSamoa

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, My Network on November 23rd, 2006

There’s been no progress since yesterday with the individual who was selling a copy of a site I bought. I’m still hopeful the situation will be settled amicably, however if not, then I’ll start taking the situation into my own hands.

Yesterday I registered my first .ws domain. I think most people assume .ws means ‘website’ even though it’s really ‘Western Samoa’. Despite this, there’s some great domains still available in this extension, so I don’t think anyone should ignore the extension.

The domain I registered is for a site that I’ve been thinking about doing for quite a while. Thankfully it’ll be easy to setup as I’ve already got the script sorted, I just hope I can come up with a decent design quickly enough, as I’m not expecting it to take too long to get online and launched.

I also went a bit mad on .infos as Registerfly had a ‘Superinfo’ sale on. I got a good mix of domains that have development potential. Like always, I instantly listed them at Sedo to see if there’s any traffic.

Talking of Sedo, the winning bidder of the auto domain still has yet to pay up…

Greed

Posted by Stevio in My Network on November 23rd, 2006

Today had been going quite well until I noticed the previous owner of a site I bought was selling a copy of it on Digital Point. I won’t name the site as there’s a possibility that things may have to be taken further.

This isn’t the first time it has happened where I’ve bought a site and then the seller has sold another copy. Previously it was only a kid though, this time it’s a man with a wife and children.

It’s bad enough buying sites online where you have to put a certain amount of trust in people, but yet it still amazes me how dishonest people can be, especially when they see no wrong in what they’re doing. Clearly any honest person sells a site and that’s it, they have their money and should be happy with that, but no, there’s some who always want more, regardless of if it’s right or wrong.

How things proceed with the person is down to him. I would hope he will see what he’s doing is wrong, but if not, then I’m more than willing to take it further, especially if the copy remains online and he continues to sell copies.

Movie-Vault.com update

Posted by Stevio in Business on November 21st, 2006

Following up on a post a few weeks back, it now appears Movie-Vault.com didn’t sell. Tyler Cruz, the owner, says the winning bidder of $50k backed out at the last minute. The site is back up in an auction starting with a minimum bid of $40k and a BIN of $60k.

As I said before, it’s a very nice site, although the price seems a little on the high side considering the annual revenue is around $6k. That said, anyone looking for a new investment should check it out.

There’s still no bids for CristianoRonaldo.com at SitePoint, I really hope if anyone is seriously interested does their homework. It doesn’t look like ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’ is a registered trademark in the UK, although if whoever owns the domain will be skating on thin ice in the future.

Pondering…

Posted by Stevio in My Network on November 21st, 2006

I’m still pondering over which project to concentrate on next. Currently I’m leaning on doing either a fan site for a comedian or actress. I have the groundwork already done on both, so it’s just dependent upon which I’m most motivated on doing first. Thankfully I’ve already had the domains for both for months, so there’s no hassle over choosing a domain and registrar.

Today I’ve managed to get hold of a database for another new project. Again, I’ve had the domain for ages, so it’s just a matter of getting down and sorting the design and coding the site. Otherwise today I’ve done little except for the usual daily updating of various sites.
