Getting back into the groove

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, My Network on December 31st, 2006

Over the Christmas period admittedly I’ve not done much. Of course I have, as normal, updated FootballTransfers.co.uk, but otherwise not much developing has gone on. I have tonight though finally got round to working on the .com domain of the actor I mentioned a few days back. I don’t really have too much experience working on actor fan sites, so not sure what to include. I’ve so far created a profile and factfile, and am currently working on the filmography. I have someone writing a biography, as that would just take too much time for me to do. I’m hoping to get the site completed in the next few days, as with the transfer window opening, it could be mayhem!

Some good news is that one of the .info domains I registered the other day has some traffic! After four days it has had 45 unique visitors. Where the traffic is coming I don’t know, but so far none have been of the ‘clicking kind’. The funny thing is that I offered the domain to someone looking for holiday domains and soon after I noticed the traffic, my first instinct was to retract the offer, but luckily I didn’t have to, as the person never got back to me. So I’ll now keep an eye on the domain for a while before considering what to do with it, obviously development is something that would interest me greatly.

Still RegisterFly’s support sucks big time! They’ve yet to get back to me over the the failed registration. I guess I should have expected this kind of shoddy service. Same goes for Sedo, still the auto domain sale has yet to be completed. I don’t care what time of year it is, transactions shouldn’t be held up because of Christmas or whatever holiday! They should, in my opinion, halve their commission for this ridiculous delay!

Don’t forget a lot of coupons expire tonight, so if you’re planning on registering some domains, make sure you get them done before Big Ben chimes, oh and of course, happy new year!

JohnThaw.com

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on December 29th, 2006

I was just looking to see if there were any websites for John Thaw, a British actor who passed away of cancer in 2002. After searching Google I came across johnthaw.com and must say I sickened. Why? Well to see someone clearly trying to cash in on someone who tragically died too young is just disgusting. The owner wants £500 (around $1k) for the domain, which is outrageous, surely the domain should be in the hands of someone who could put together a tribute site for the actor? Maybe I’m over-reacting, but it’s just disappointing to see someone being so disrespectful to the memory of someone who was much loved by people all over the world for his roles on television.

Regged some crackers

Posted by Stevio in Coupons, Domain Names, My Network on December 28th, 2006

Tonight I’ve registered five new domains. One a .com and the four others are .infos.

The .com is the name of an actor. I don’t think that his name is that well known, but I’m sure most people know of him, as he plays a ‘big’ role in a movie franchise. Normally I wouldn’t register the .com of someone’s name as obviously there’s an increased chance they would claim it, however, I suspect Great Domains would register it or someone else would misuse the domain, so I thought I’d register it and put together an un-official website, as it doesn’t appear there is one, which is a pity, as he’s a fantastic actor.

Two of the .infos are actors too. One is an up-and-coming British actor who will hopefully go on to bigger and better things, and the other is of an actress who has been a bit quiet of late.

The two others are related to vacations and puzzles.

I also tried to register another domain at RegisterFly, but, typically, the .net failed, which was quite annoying.

I should mention I used RegisterFly’s SUPERINFO coupon to register the .info domains for just $0.60 and the gdh1219b coupon to buy the .com at Godaddy for just $5.99.

In other news, I decided to end the auction for the four domains due to there being no bids. Some of the domains have a few months on them before they expire, so I’ll have to think about what to do with them.
