Making my big getaway

Posted by Stevio in Coupons, Domain Names, My Network on February 27th, 2007

I finally got back to work on the new version of my Steve McQueen site - two years after beginning. The current site is exactly how it was when I bought it in August 2005. Soon after buying it I started work on new content and design, but got sidetracked either with other stuff or illness. Luckily the design still looks good, therefore after a few tweaks, I will continued to use it. The things to complete are mainly writing the fact file and other little things. Also there’s the gallery to finish organising. But it’s looking good and will hopefully do the ‘the king of cool’ justice.

Today, when looking to see if RobbieColtrane.com had been included in Google yet, I found a link to BuyDomains.com where the domain is advertised for sale! I can only guess the previous owner had put it up for sale before it expired. Regardless, I want it removed, as clearly it isn’t for sale, so will be contacted them.

There’s nothing new with regards to Registerfly.com’s demise. Still their site is up and running and I assume still taking people’s money. I’ve continued transferring my domains out of there to Godaddy, who thankfully have come to the aid of victims of Registerfly. They’re offering a special offer to transfer domains to them for a reduced price. Admittedly, I’m a little ticked off that they didn’t do this sooner, as I’d already paid for the majority of the transfers already. But anyways, you can find out more about the Godaddy offer at https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/transfers/registerfly.asp.

Flying in the face of danger?

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, My Network on February 23rd, 2007

I’ve recently been looking trying to sell a few domains to cut down on the amount of domains I have. Reason why is because I’m looking to stick to certain categories, like football, celebrities, etc.

I listed 42 domains for sale on various forums, I only managed to sell just 4.

Perhaps the lack of sales are related to the bizarre goings on at Registerfly. I hope they can sort themselves out, as I have quite a few domains there. Obviously I don’t want to lose any, and even though I doubt that will happen, I’ve have initiated transfers for various domains that I would hate to lose.

You can find out more information on the Registerfly scandal at registerflies.com.

Weekend developments

Posted by Stevio in My Network on February 20th, 2007

This weekend I managed to build a fan site for Emily Blunt, who is an actress that won a Golden Globe for her role in The Devil Wears Prada. Like Robbie Coltrane, Natascha McElhone and Claire Forlani, she’s British, and of course, very talented!

My attempt to purchase the football website I mentioned in my last post is now over with. Even though the owner of the site kept coming down in price, I just couldn’t see him getting realistic over his asking price. Where he got his crazy figures from still baffles me, but now I’d rather build my own site, as there’ll be less hassle and less risk involved.

I mentioned in a post last month about an idea for a football site I had back in 2000. Well during the weekend I made up a php version using mysql. I was slightly concerned how the database would be organised, but thankfully it was simple in the end. In 2000, I was reluctant about going ahead with ‘Project X’, now though I think I’ll give it a shot, as the only expense will be that of a domain name.

I was relieved to find out that a domain I thought had been ‘lost’ due to the Registerfly-Enom split was in fact at Enom! Still though I’m concerned about the rumours going around about Registerfly, I have one or two domains still there and would really hate to lose them.

The domain that got away?

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, My Network on February 16th, 2007

It appears I’ve fallen foul of Enom’s decision to axe their agreement with Registerfly, meaning that one of my domains has currently gone AWOL. The domain belongs to a site, so as you can guess, I’m not happy about it. I’ve tried contacting Enom but so far no movement.

I know I’m not the only one who has failed to receive an e-mail from Enom about this, it appears there’s quite a few who have many domains currently at risk. Hopefully myself and everyone will be able to resolve the situation satisfactorily.

Over the last few days I’ve been trying to purchase a few websites. One, a football site, is looking doubtful. Currently the difference between valuations is something like $4,500! I’m not sure where the seller got his high value from, I can only guess that he’s inexperienced in selling websites.

The second site was a tutorial site. Unfortunately I missed out on that one, why I don’t know, as it sold for a price I had already offered.

I can’t say I’m actively looking to buy sites, but as always, I’m keeping my eyes open for anything interesting. Sadly, these days most of the sites for sale are to do with MySpace, arcades, etc.

I managed to get the .info of a well known singer earlier today. I was extremely surprised to see it unregistered. Overture says the singer, who is no longer with us, gets over 40k searches every month. I hope to developed the domain, however, my next development project will be for yet another English actress.

I should add that if you’re looking for cheap .infos, then Godaddy currently have a sale on where you can register them for just $1.24.
