Annoying racist

Posted by Stevio in My Network on February 12th, 2007

Something annoyed me today. I received a mail sent about my site battleship Bismarck.

They said: “This is a website of battleship Bismarck, f*cking Nazi battleship, which thanks to the Lord was destroyed along with more than 2000 Nazis, including Admiral Gunther Lutjens, KptzS Ernst Lindemann and other anonimous Nazi criminals. Lord, let them suffer in the fires of the Hell! Clean-up the Earth from Germans!”

It really is disappointing when people behave in this racist manner.

We’re well aware that the Nazis did some unforgivable things, but people should remember that aboard the Bismark were sailors, just like on HMS Hood.

The site tells a remarkable story of the Bismark and is dedicated to the thousands who died serving on both ships.

It saddens me that someone like the person who e-mailed would like to see a whole country’s people wiped out. Like Stephen Fry said in his recent Podcast, you cannot blame a current generation for something that happened in the past.

Busy busy busy

Posted by Stevio in My Network on February 12th, 2007

I’ve been quite busy the passed few days.

Firstly, I’ve managed to wrap up the two text link advertising deals. One was for a month, while the other was for a whole year. With the latter being for such a long time and covering quite a few sites, I sold the individual links for a cheap rate. It’s still a good deal though, as the advertiser paid upfront, meaning the money brought in can be spent on coding for FootballTransfers.co.uk.

Finally, I managed to get round to adding three new Photoshop tutorials to PSTutorials.co.uk. Two were text effects, while my favourite one, ‘Flashing Car Lights’, is a simple effect you can use on car photos.

It looks like Google are not liking RobbieColtrane.com. The site has been online a while now and hasn’t been indexed. It looks like the domain expired on the July 30th of last year, so perhaps that’s why. Hopefully Google will soon see sense and get it indexed!

I noticed yesterday that the design of NatureWallpaper.co.uk looked ‘out of shape’ in IE7. I’m pretty sure it was fine in IE6. So I had to spend a little time tweaking the design. Thankfully it looks fine now.

I haven’t done much work on my latest new site, FootballQuiz.info. There’s still a bit of work that needs doing - like adding more quiz questions, for example. It was another site that wasn’t totally IE7 friendly. It has already been indexed in Google, as I added links to it on my various football sites when adding the paid text links.

Leaving the world of wide websites

Posted by Stevio in My Network on February 8th, 2007

After my attempt to sell FootballTransfers.co.uk, I’ve decided to call the sale off permanently. I had already put it on hold, but now I’ve decided to keep the site and see how things pan out.

My main reason for putting the site up for sale was due to a change of circumstance, which has yet to happen. I’m now thinking that when it does I’ll see how it goes and fingers crossed I’ll still have time to continue updating the site.

I’ve now started a full redesign of FootballTransfers.co.uk. I’ve decided that I want the width of the site to be fixed rather than liquid. This should make the design of the site look a lot better, especially on wide screen monitors.

I also want to include wide skyscrapers and leaderboard type adverts to make the most of CPM advertising.

The width of the design might be in excess of 800 pixels, which obviously could upset those using monitors with 800×600 resolutions. Supposedly there’s around 20% of users still using this resolution, which is astonishing really.

Moving on, I’ve hopefully concluded one of the deals to sell text links on one of my sites. The other deal I’m uncertain about, so some finer details need clarifying.

Moving on

Posted by Stevio in My Network on February 7th, 2007

After waiting a few days to talk to the person who bid for FootballTransfers.co.uk, I’ve decided to ‘move on’, as it clearly wasn’t going on anywhere. I can’t say I’m surprised though, as I’m pretty sure this is the same person who staggeringly offered to ‘buy’ the site for nothing a year ago.

I’ve also decided against taking the auction route with the site, as if I do sell it, I want to make sure I sell it to the right person. So for the moment the sale of FootballTransfers.co.uk is hold.

In other news, I’ve had lots of interest in buying text links. One offer covers most of my football sites. Selling text links isn’t an option I’ve explored much, but it’s abundantly clear I should!

The new site I’ve been working on is going really well. The design has been done and I’m now concentrating on the content. Fingers crossed it’ll be done quickly, then I can get on with something else.
