You snooze, you lose!

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on August 31st, 2007

I’ve heard stories before of when people go and check to see if a domain is available and then go to register it only to find someone has beat them too it. Well, it has just happened to me!

The minute I tried to register to a .info, I get told by Godaddy that the domain is not available.

With the domain being a one worder with high overture, I guess the chances of someone else deciding to snag it was fairly high, however, for them to do it at practically the same time as I tried is very odd.

When you consider the domain had been available for a few weeks, it’s really is annoying that they decided right now to register it.

Whoever registered it used Wild West Domains, I don’t think they’re domain tasters, so looks like I’ve missed out.

It wasn’t an important domain really, it’s just really irritating to miss out on a domain like this, just goes to show that you shouldn’t dawdle when it comes to registering good domains.

January sales begin early

Posted by Stevio in My Network on August 26th, 2007

Yesterday I posted six websites for sale. Four are auctions and the other two are ‘make offer’.

I’ve posted on DigitalPoint.com, Webmaster-talk.com, Webhostingtalk.com and NamePros.com. The interest has so far only come from Digital Point, which is a good indicator on which site is the best to sell sites on.

I’ve already agreed the sale of two other websites, which should be completed next week.

With all the sales and possible sales, I have halted that trend momentarily with the purchase of a site about Camel Spiders. The site took a while to acquire due to on-off communications, however, I finally bought the site for a reasonable price on Friday night.

The domain sales haven’t gone too well. A few offers but nothing tempting.

New site launched plus other goings on

Posted by Stevio in My Network on August 23rd, 2007

Recently I’ve been working on a few new websites as well as looking at the sites already in my network.

One new site is already completed and that’s a fan site for the band Cold War Kids. The other project is football related and is coming along well.

I’ve decided that I’ll be selling around six or more websites in the coming days. I’ve already discussed the sale of three with a few interested people.

It’s more than likely I’ll post the ones unsold up for auction at the usual places like Digital Point, etc.

I’ve still got a few domains to sell too. My last attempt didn’t go so well despite good interest. Perhaps this time I’ll put a few in auctions, as ‘looking for offers’ doesn’t seem to work with people.

I’m already planning new sites and things to do when the transfer window closes. On my ‘to do’ list is the next stage of the coding for FootballTransfers.co.uk. Thankfully the last batch was completed a few weeks ago, many months behind schedule. The coder did a great job though.

Negotiations stall

Posted by Stevio in My Network on August 16th, 2007

The negotiations that I mentioned in my last post over the sale of a site appear to have stalled, after the interested party failed to respond to my last e-mail.

The last thing I said to them was that the price range mentioned was not enough, so I can only take it they’re unwilling to pay more.

Admittedly, I didn’t have a clear idea of the valuation of the site, as it had ‘problems’ over the last three months. But the problems have recently been solved and now traffic and revenue are increasing. I’ve even now had the site accepted into TLA, so whatever the valuation would have been, has most certainly increased.

In recent weeks I finally completed work on Ronaldinho-Fans.com. The site needed more work than I originally thought. That’ll teach me to buy these kinds of overpriced sites.

Last weekend I also added two band sites to the network I bought last month. One is for the Manic Street Preachers and the other Biffy Clyro. I have to say I didn’t know much about the latter, but one of the bonuses of creating sites for bands, musicians, actors, and even footballers, is that you get to find out a lot of things you never knew!
