Why sell?

Posted by Stevio in My Network on August 13th, 2007

I wrote a post last month ‘Most websites have a price?‘, well a similar situation has occured, but this time someone has approached me with their interest in one of my sites. I won’t reveal which website, but it is an automotive one.

At present, I don’t really have any reason to sell, like the site’s domain is good. It has decent age and page rank. The search engline positioning for the site is very good for the targetted search terms. The content is great along with the design, and of course, the revenue is pretty solid. The only niggle is that the script isn’t the best.

So why sell? Well, the only reason I would sell is if I was made a silly offer. But I strongly do not want to sell revenue making sites, as it is like one step forward and two steps back.

Text-Link-Ads.com

Posted by Stevio in My Network on August 8th, 2007

For a few weeks now I’ve been trying out Text-Link-Ads.com (aka TLA) on FootballResources.com. So far, it’s going pretty well with three out of four spots filled. The money made so far isn’t too great, however, as I don’t think I would have had much interest in selling links there otherwise, it’s better than nothing.

Due to the reasonable success with TLA, I thought I’d submit a few more sites - Automotives ones - surprisingly they were rejected. After that I thought I might as well try and see if this blog would be rejected too, but to my surprise, it wasn’t!

I’ve already had FootballTransfers.co.uk accepted a few weeks back, and after some reluctance, I’ve now decided I’ll be using them on that site too. The main reason is because of the hassle of dealing with potential advertisers. For example, this week a few have been in touch over advertising on my football sites, the bother providing traffic stats, then discussions about what they want, it can be time consuming and irritating. Sure, if a deal comes off it can be financially rewarding, however, I much prefer letting advertising companies deal with advertisers and accept less cash. A good thing about TLA is that they provide more advertising opportunities, therefore any loss of cash should be made up.

I plan to submit more of my sites to TLA, it will be interesting to see how many get rejected!

New Rock band websites

Posted by Stevio in My Network on August 5th, 2007

It has been quite a few weeks since I’ve finished any new sites, but today I’ve amazingly managed to finish three!

Admittedly, all three were close to being ready, but they needed quite a bit of tweaking, with the addition of more content.

KaiserChiefs.info is about English band the Kaiser Chiefs. I bought the domain and the template a few weeks back. The site is a bit bare at the moment, but I’ll add more stuff over time.

I bought LimpBizkit.info and RedHotChiliPeppers.info as part of a deal for three sites. I doubt Limp Bizkit or Red Hot Chili Peppers need any introductions, as they’re pretty much well known worldwide.

Luckily I’m a fan of all three, so they’re a great addition to the band sites that I bought a couple of weeks ago.

Ignorance and Scammers

Posted by Stevio in Business on August 2nd, 2007

Something that really annoys me is when people don’t reply to your private messages on forums. For example, I bid for a domain and the person says I could have it if no-one bids more. Well a week later, no response, so I ask did I win - of course, no reply.

It really puts me off doing business with people who are ignorant, as it makes them look like they can’t be trusted. Which brings me on to another thing.

Yet again webmaster-talk.com another scammer. Two people paid for a recipe website and never received it. Of course, they’ve put in a dispute at Paypal, which we know is about as much use as plastic fire poker.

These events and these type of people we can do without, as it adds to the distrust that’s already there.
