Website sale over

Posted by Stevio in My Network on September 30th, 2007

Despite the goings on this month, on the website front things haven’t been going too bad.

The month started with the sale of my first ever website purchase, RateCarPics.com. I liked the site very much, still do, however, it had stagnated and I didn’t feel up to redeveloping it, so when someone followed up on their interest, I eventually sold the site.

I also sold my football forum, EnglandFootballForum.com. Reason for this was because I felt that I needed a forum for FootballTransfers.info for fans around the world.

Another automotive site sold was CarPhotos.org. The site had suffered after the then hosts upgraded to PHP 5. I didn’t notice until three months afterwards that the ‘friendly urls’ facility had failed, meaning traffic fell.

I sold three small sites plus my Photoshop site PSTutorials.co.uk. I had moved to Ubuntu, so felt it was time to sell.

Despite all these sales, I didn’t actually move all the sites I was looking to sell, but will keep those for now.

With the sold sites and the credit card hassles, I did manage to buy two sites - one of them is MSharapova.info, which as you can guess is about tennis star Maria Sharapova. The other is about a rock star. It’s quite old as its been around since 2001 and is DMOZ listed. It needs a lot of work, so I’m currently rebuilding it. I hope to have it done as soon as possible, as I don’t want DMOZ to de-list it!

Black September

Posted by Stevio in My Network on September 29th, 2007

I’ll be very glad when this month is over, as it has been an irritating time.

First off, somehow, someone got hold of the data of when I made a transaction with a credit card. I know when, I know where, problem at present is the ‘how’. I have my suspicions, however, it’s best to keep them to myself for now.

Since the aforementioned happened I decided against using a credit card online, this meant even further problems, as soon after I had hosting to pay for. Unfortunately after three years the hosts weren’t too accommodating, so I told them what I thought and left for another host.

Moving to a new host didn’t go according to plan, which meant downtime for my websites, which is never good. However, now things have settled down and my sites are on a much faster server.

There’s still the irritation with the credit card company left as they seem to be a law unto themselves, but fingers crossed it will be sorted satisfactorily.

Regardless, the show must go on, and as I’m in fighting mood, I’m full of energy, which is being plowed into my sites.

Cheap .info renewals at Godaddy

Posted by Stevio in My Network on September 10th, 2007

Something that has been annoying lately is the renewal price of .info domains at Godaddy. They charge prices up to $9.99 for one year!

Thankfully, I’ve come across a coupon that lets you renew your .info domain for a year at just $6.99 plus 20c ICANN charge.

All you have to do is submit the coupon code gdm0901 on the payment page and you can do up to five at a time - do any more and you’ll be charged the higher bulk price rate.

I’ve been making use of the code - I’ve already renewed ten. I had been transferring domains to Dynadot - perhaps a lot of others have too, hence this sudden generous move by Godaddy!

Now, if only they’d lower their transfer price for .infos… hint, hint!
