The past and the future

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, My Network on December 22nd, 2007

At this time of year it’s time to reflect on the past year and consider the future. I’m no different, and am currently pondering what changes to make to my network of websites and domain portfolio.

I’ve got quite a few websites now, ranging from the old to the very new. Some receive quite a bit of traffic, while some hardly any. The revenue too varies. So how to proceed?

Well I’ve already decided on one major change, and that is to sell my biggest website. I think I’ve taken it as far as I can, and therefore I’m hoping someone will buy it and take it forward.

I’ll reveal more when I’ve decided on when and how to sell it, as it’ll be a huge sale for me.

I’ve noticed that over the last month that my developing of websites has dropped off hugely, so that’s somewhere I need to improve, especially as I’ve still got quite a few unfinished projects.

Thankfully, my sales of domains has picked up in recent weeks, I’ve sold around four now. I can’t say I’m a fan of selling domains, so I think it’s something I’m going to limit in the future.

I still do intend to buy websites, in fact, I’ve purchased three over the last week or so. They’re a mix bag with one about Hitler’s wife Eva Braun, the other about giant squid, and finally one on antelopes.

As well as the aforementioned, I’ll more than likely continue to sell the odd site or two, but of course, only at the right price.

So how will things go? Who knows, all being well I’ll continue to write about my progress here during 2008.

Miracles do happen - sort of

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on December 13th, 2007

Sometimes it’s amazing how suddenly domains become available. For example, today I was looking to see if any were available for one of my favourite bands, and guess what, the .info was there unregistered!

I think it just goes to shows how I should keep track of domains that I’d be interested in registering, as you never know which ones might expire.

Keeping on the subject of domains, I listed some again for sale on various forums. There was a bit of interest with a couple of bids. So far, one is sold with another still available due to a non-payer.

The latter I can’t say I’m impressed with. The so-called buyer bid knowing he didn’t have the funds to pay. He also got abusive saying that I agreed to sell for Namepros cash - which of course isn’t true. I should have left negative feedback, and perhaps still will, as I’m fed up with these childish time wasting morons.

Car Insurance Advice site put back online

Posted by Stevio in My Network on December 6th, 2007

In the end, I decided to bring back the car insurance site. This was because the domain for the other site that I was considering developing had already been registered.

I had listed CarInsuranceAdvice.info at Sedo while I decided what to do, and astonishingly, there were 31 and 29 unqiue views over the last two days. I doubt these were actually people trying to view the site, it’s most likely they were robots.

The domain isn’t actually listed in Google, I just hope it isn’t banned, as it appears it had expired last August.

I hadn’t noticed prior to buying how many Adsense units the site had. I cut them down and will most likely redesign the site in the future - obviously that is dependent on it being indexed by search engines.

The content is unique, so fingers crossed the site will be a good investment.

Back from vacation

Posted by Stevio in My Network on December 4th, 2007

I’ve just returned from a short vacation on the English Yorkshire coast. It was extremely cold! That and a sometimes slow mobile internet connection prevented me from doing too much website work, and now, I’ve ‘caught a cold’.

At present it’s tough doing anything due to being ill, but I’m continuing to battle through to try and keep things ticking over.

One thing I’ve been trying to do is to get back to using my main computer, unfortunately somehow it’s developed a sound problem. Plus a new install of Windows has been hit by an irritating firewall. So I’m currently back on the laptop.

Despite being on vacation, I have managed to keep my eye on Digital Point for any sites that could be of interest. There were a few: one being a wallpaper site, it sold pretty quickly, so I never got round to bidding. I don’t think I would have anyway, as I don’t think there was enough wallpapers.

Another site was UFO related. I was very interested and even made bids in the auction. Unfortunately I was out bid, and with the revenue details only for a month amounting to $4, I decided against bidding further.

I have bought a couple of sites though, very cheap ones. The first is TigerArmy.info, a fan site for Tiger Army. I can’t say I’ve ever heard of them!

The other site is CarInsuranceAdvice.info. At present I’m not sure what to do with it. I’ve had an idea for a site for a while and might use the content on there.

Over at Digital Point I did notice that CarPhotos.org was sold again. The new owner appears to have sold it for ’slightly less’ than $800, which is more than I sold it for back in September. The site had been improved with the addition of a forum and blog, so it looks a good deal for the new buyer.
