Digital Point forums offline

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, Miscellaneous on June 1st, 2008

The forums at Digital Point are down, longest I’ve seen for quite some time.

Currently, the forum software says: “Database error… The database has encountered a problem.”

Talking of Digital Point, yesterday I was given an infraction because they ‘felt’ I was bumping my domain sales thread. To say I wasn’t happy was an understatement considering every time I posted it was with relevant information to the sale.

Admittedly I had posted four replies to my own post and only I had posted in the thread, but that was because I changed prices for some domain that were expiring, added that I would offer discounts, and also another to say that I decided to keep a domain. Supposedly it was the latter post that I got the infraction for the infraction, which I think is a joke.

The moderator was harsh in my opinion, especially when you can’t alter you previous posts on Digital Point.

I try and run my sales thread properly, providing up-to-date and accurate information. It seems Digital Point don’t want this as they ‘feel’ you might be bumping. How wrong and how pathetic.

Tasted domain captured

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, My Network on May 13th, 2008

Sometimes you can watch an expiring domain only to miss out to someone else. Sure you can pay to backorder the domain to increase your chances, however, if there’s a lot of competition, you’re never really guaranteed to get the domain.

Yesterday though, I managed to get hold of a domain I’d be keeping my eye on. It had been taken, however, after noticing it had been registered at Dynadot, I had a feeling it might be being tasted.

Dynadot’s website says the following: “If the domain name is less than 5 days old, you can request a Grace Period Deletion for a Dynadot account credit.”

Admittedly, I’ve never tasted a domain, mainly because when I register a domain I’m more interested in keywords. Of course, if there’s any traffic that’s a bonus.

I’m really pleased to get the domain - it isn’t a .com domain of great value, it’s just yet another .info with keywords that’ll make a nice little site.

The past and the future

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names, My Network on December 22nd, 2007

At this time of year it’s time to reflect on the past year and consider the future. I’m no different, and am currently pondering what changes to make to my network of websites and domain portfolio.

I’ve got quite a few websites now, ranging from the old to the very new. Some receive quite a bit of traffic, while some hardly any. The revenue too varies. So how to proceed?

Well I’ve already decided on one major change, and that is to sell my biggest website. I think I’ve taken it as far as I can, and therefore I’m hoping someone will buy it and take it forward.

I’ll reveal more when I’ve decided on when and how to sell it, as it’ll be a huge sale for me.

I’ve noticed that over the last month that my developing of websites has dropped off hugely, so that’s somewhere I need to improve, especially as I’ve still got quite a few unfinished projects.

Thankfully, my sales of domains has picked up in recent weeks, I’ve sold around four now. I can’t say I’m a fan of selling domains, so I think it’s something I’m going to limit in the future.

I still do intend to buy websites, in fact, I’ve purchased three over the last week or so. They’re a mix bag with one about Hitler’s wife Eva Braun, the other about giant squid, and finally one on antelopes.

As well as the aforementioned, I’ll more than likely continue to sell the odd site or two, but of course, only at the right price.

So how will things go? Who knows, all being well I’ll continue to write about my progress here during 2008.

Miracles do happen - sort of

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on December 13th, 2007

Sometimes it’s amazing how suddenly domains become available. For example, today I was looking to see if any were available for one of my favourite bands, and guess what, the .info was there unregistered!

I think it just goes to shows how I should keep track of domains that I’d be interested in registering, as you never know which ones might expire.

Keeping on the subject of domains, I listed some again for sale on various forums. There was a bit of interest with a couple of bids. So far, one is sold with another still available due to a non-payer.

The latter I can’t say I’m impressed with. The so-called buyer bid knowing he didn’t have the funds to pay. He also got abusive saying that I agreed to sell for Namepros cash - which of course isn’t true. I should have left negative feedback, and perhaps still will, as I’m fed up with these childish time wasting morons.
