Three directories sold

Posted by Stevio in My Network on July 19th, 2009

It has been a while since my last post, again. Not good. Since the end of May things have been up and down.

I did after all offload a few of the directories I had. Managed to make a little profit on them, but not much. I still have two left, one of which is now PR3. At present they’re just being neglected and have 5,000 pending links each.

Funny thing is someone paid $10 for a featured link on the PR3 directory. I decided to refund as the link went against the submission rules, plus I was and still am undecided over the future of the directory.

I have managed to acquire a few sites. Admittedly I’m only spending little amounts, as buying sites is too risky. For example, I have little faith in what people post as traffic and revenue details. Also by buying cheaply means I have a better chance of reselling.

I don’t know how it is for other people, but Adsense isn’t doing too well for me of late. I guess the downturn is responsible. Also appears some of my sites aren’t converting very well neither. Clearly I need to do some fine tuning.

I hope to make more regular posts in future. Unfortunately my health is up and down too, which makes doing things on a regular basis a little difficult.

Directory frustrations

Posted by Stevio in My Network on May 22nd, 2009

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I recently bought some directories. In addition to those, I registered some domains and set up a couple more.

So far the two I bought are getting quite a few submissions a day, however, rather frustratingly, the submissions don’t adhere to the rules.

Why is it people don’t read rules before submitting? I find it crazy. I know I always do prior to submitting, as otherwise it’s a waste of time.

In addition to that irritation, I’ve noticed a couple of times people submitting the same site but on different domains. Do people think that directory owners have such bad memories they won’t notice? Again, crazy.

So, so far running these directories isn’t too much fun. If people can follow the rules, I’m sure things will be fine, otherwise, I guess I’ll just have to sell them.

Stop Spam!

Posted by Stevio in My Network on May 20th, 2009

As well as developing domains, I’ve also been redeveloping some of my neglected sites. Unfortunately, some are in quite a state due to the amount of spam they’ve received. Why did this happen? Simple, there was no protection to prevent these morons’ scripts from submitting their pornography, diet, and pharmacy drivel.

One site’s database is something like 95% full of spam, which is making it horrendous to pluck out the actual real content.

I know there’s no excuse, even if these sites are small and receive little traffic. I should have sorted better protection out, like now I know that just adding a bit of code to ask a question on submission does the trick.

So if you have a site that has unprotected submission forms, best get them protected straight away!

Making Progress

Posted by Stevio in My Network on May 19th, 2009

Well it has been two months since my last post, and there’s been lots of ups and downs, but I’m making progress.

Despite yet another health problem, I managed to work through it and develop a few domains.

I’ve even managed to buy a few websites too. Admittedly, nothing major, just a few cheap small content sites and directories.

I got accepted into Adsense in April, and so far I have to admit, I’m disappointed with the earnings made. I don’t expect much, especially as the few sites I have online have little traffic, but when you see clicks at 1c, well, it’s disheartening.

I’m going to look for alternative revenue sources, I’m not sure what yet, but I’ll more than likely test run a few networks.

So, so far so good.
