Mayhem

Posted by Stevio in My Network on July 15th, 2008

Last weekend was mayhem. I had planned to get so much done, instead it was hold up after hold up.

For example, I wanted to move two new sites to my hosting that I’d bought, unfortunately, the seller sent the wrong username for the site’s hosting, meaning I couldn’t move that site nor the other site due to nameservers.

Another thing was to install and customise a new script for a few wallpaper websites. The sites had been hacked last week and I thought I’d change the script to a better one. Unfortunately the hosting went down for hours.

To top it off the hacker was back targeting a site he/she had targeted last week - which I thought had been fixed. So that site is now offline and needs sorting.

There’s still quite a lot of other things to do, oh well, I guess it’s better to be busy than have nothing to do.

Please raise the price of .info domains!

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on July 3rd, 2008

I’m beginning to get seriously fed up of with the price .info domains. Due to the very low price - 99c at Godaddy - it means website sellers on forums are having a field day creating cheap turnkey sites with rubbish .info domains. We’re not talking quality keyword rich two word domains here, we’re talking trashy names with words like ‘buzz’ or ‘zone’ on the end.

I’m also getting tired of trying to sell quality .info domains too, as no-one will buy them for reasonable prices. This is just because they can register a .info for 99c and so they expect to buy them cheap too!

It’s time the prices of .info domains went back to realistic prices, as otherwise the extension will be tarnished forever!

Dotster want credit card details for free domain?

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on July 1st, 2008

Following winning a free domain at Dotster last week, I went ahead and attempted to register a domain. To my surprise Dotster requested my credit card details as a way to prevent fraud.

Considering I went through a lot of irritation last year due to some fraudulent charges on my credit card, I was and still am reluctant to go ahead with the order. Sure a free domain is nice, but when websites demand details like this unnecessarily, it sets alarm bells ringing.

I’d rather spend $7 on a domain than go through all that again!

Get a free domain at Dotster

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on June 24th, 2008

I received a mail from Dotster this morning saying: “New .COM, .NET, .ORG domains given away are good for one year registration only and are limited to one new domain name per account. Offer ends at 12 midnight, July 2, 2008 PDT and is not valid with existing domain names.”

They’re giving away 50 free domains every hour until 4pm PDT.

These kind of offers one is usually skeptical over, however, this afternoon I managed to ‘win’ a free domain.

If you haven’t already attempted to get a free domain, you can do so by going to Dotster.com.
