Dotster want credit card details for free domain?

Posted by Stevio in Domain Names on July 1st, 2008

Following winning a free domain at Dotster last week, I went ahead and attempted to register a domain. To my surprise Dotster requested my credit card details as a way to prevent fraud.

Considering I went through a lot of irritation last year due to some fraudulent charges on my credit card, I was and still am reluctant to go ahead with the order. Sure a free domain is nice, but when websites demand details like this unnecessarily, it sets alarm bells ringing.

I’d rather spend $7 on a domain than go through all that again!

Get a free domain at Dotster

I received a mail from Dotster this morning saying: “New .COM, .NET, .ORG domains given away are good for one year registration only and are limited to one new domain name per account. Offer ends at 12 midnight, July 2, 2008 PDT and is not valid with existing domain names.”

They’re giving away 50 free domains every hour until 4pm PDT.

These kind of offers one is usually skeptical over, however, this afternoon I managed to ‘win’ a free domain.

If you haven’t already attempted to get a free domain, you can do so by going to Dotster.com.
